Flex 4 released.

Here are a few comments on the latest release of Flex 4.

Going back one year I was getting more and more critical to the stability problems and numerous bugs of Flex 3 and the overall general problems with using Flex in enterprise solutions on the Internet.

We have now been using Flex 4 for around half a year and been following the improvements. And I can honestly say that I am much more optimistic about the power of Flex now than when I used Flex 3. In my opinion it has become more mature, stable and easier to use.

The big enterprises are often split between correcting bugs and adding new features and more than often choose to put most resources on the second, since features sell products. In the case of Adobe they have inherited some great things from Macromedia, other than Flash/Flex. Macromedia was really focused on the users of their products and supported the community very well. Adobe has followed that same path to some extend, which is wonderful to see, but their support in the community can still be greatly improved.

In todays Internet world, no matter the technology, applications have to be easy to build, easy to scale, easy to maintain and powerful in features to survive. I still consider Flex development to be complicated, time consuming, thus expensive for our clients, but with Flex 4 we are a good step closer to improving on that.
